Wu Man - Shadiana (Vol 10) by SI Music Of Central Asia published on 2012-01-23T20:01:12Z On May 29, Smithsonian Folkways and the Aga Khan Music Initiative will celebrate the tenth and final release of their award-winning "Music of Central Asia" series, a groundbreaking CD/DVD set entitled 'Borderlands: Wu Man and Master Musicians from the Silk Route’. Shadiana (Celebration) showcases Wu Man (pipa) and Abdulla Majnun (dutar) from "Music of Central Asia Volume 10: Borderlands - Wu Man and Master Musicians from the Silk Route". This song was traditionally performed for medieval kings going into battle, and is now played at popular festivals. Shadiana is a part of the playlist showcasing the “Music of Central Asia” series (http://www.folkways.si.edu/CentralAsia), ranging from the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan, to the mugham and bardic songs of Azerbaijan, to the cross cultural collaborations of Afghanistan and western artists such as Kronos Quartet.
