Mersey Miracle Rag by Stewart Lever published on 2012-06-28T10:03:12Z The re-birth of the River Mersey really inspired me to write this song. "Sparling" was the local name in the 14th Century for Smelt, not to be confused with "Smolt" (which are young salmon). A fishmonger in Warrington, made so much money from selling fried Sparling that he built a row of cottages, just off Knutsford Road in Warrington and named it "Sparling Street". There were so many salmon being caught in the 17th century, that questions were raised in parliament and there were requests, that surplus salmon be fed pigs!!! Genre Acoustic Comment by Dawn and Alan Really enjoy this song! 2012-11-24T08:43:15Z
